About us
The Role and Aim
The aims of Rcus are such as to perform research on system, organization, structure of higher education as well as its contents and teaching methods, with scientific, inter-disciplinary, and policy-oriented manner, and then, to develop, examine, and present practical models for university reform in Japan.
Rcus is established in Bukyo District, Tokyo in 1986 to perform these researches. This center is the second and one of a very few specialized organizations in National University established after Research Institute for Higher Education in University of Hiroshima that researches university and higher education academically.
We have earned the nation's first third-party evaluation in this area of study in 1997. Even after privatization of national university, we are highly expected to encourage university restructure.
Research Activities
The aim for our research activities is to adapt to the change of the environment of higher education, and solve problems by having joined research project with the support of in-school and out-of-school specialists and by having open research meetings. You may refer here for the details.
Educational Activities
Certificate Program "University Management Human Resources Cultivation"
We strongly seek for highly-professional personnel who are also team workers in university management.In this program, we provide the opportunities to have practical trainings for university staff who are in charge of cultivating human resources or for those who are changing their careers.
This program consists of 4 modules of University Management Seminar, University Management Lecture, University Management Field Research, and University Management Research. You will take more than 120 hours of classes including mandatory classes. After getting the approval of completion, you will earn the Certificate issued by the president of the University of Tsukuba.
University Management Seminar and University Management Workshop are open to those who are not enrolled in Certificate Program.

The aims are such as to give highly-motivated participants with experiences at site advises of experts and practical trainings to give them the new view of university management. You may refer here for the details.
Educational Activities at the Graduate School or in the College Program
Our professors are engaged in an effort to participate in educational activities related to their specialized lectures or researches at the Graduate School or in the collage program.
Publications
We publish 'University Studies', 'Research Activities Online' and 'Rcus Working Paper' as academic journal to spread our research results.
Books and Resources
Our library has magazines (Japanese and English), statistical resources, governmental publications, and independent books (Japanese and English) related to higher education.
